NOMINATION DEADLINE

Thank you for your interest in Association Forum’s Board of Directors.  Association Forum is governed by a diverse 13-member board of directors that includes association professionals, as well as supporting members (consultants, industry supplier partners, and destination marketing organization staff).  This leadership group is essential to Association Forum’s success. Each Board member serves a three-year term, beginning on April 1st. 

There are four vacancies on the 2025-2028 Board of Directors.  Association Forum is seeking nominations for the following positions:

  • One officer position (Secretary-Treasurer). Member must have served on the Board of Directors for one term to be eligible.
  • Two association professional members (individuals working at an association).
  • One supporting member (individuals working at an industry supplier, a destination marketing organization (DMO), or a consulting firm. 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a member in good standing of Association Forum with sufficient leadership and management experience
  • Must be either an association professional or supporting member
  • For the Officer position, a member must have served at least one year on Association Forum's Board of Directors and been a regular member of Association Forum for at least five years.

Nomination Process:

You may nominate yourself or someone else. If you or someone you know meets the nominating criteria below and is willing to serve on the board, please complete the online nomination form. Once the nomination has been reviewed and the criteria have been met, staff will provide either you or the candidate with a link to the board application. All 2025-2028 Board of Directors cycle applications are due no later than Monday, December 16, 2024. 

Nominating Criteria:

The Nominating Committee will evaluate board candidates based on their background, including their credentials, past leadership experience, and association industry tenure; their Association Forum experience, including their past involvement in Association Forum committees and programs; and their personal characteristics, including their communication skills, leadership style and commitment to diversity.

There are five key selection categories: 

  1. Background: What is your association industry experience?  Do you have previous board experience? Do you have a CAE?
  2. Association Forum experience: How long have you been a member, and what activities have you been involved in?
  3. Personal characteristics: Are you easy to approach? Are you a visionary and strategic? Are you ethical? Because part of your responsibility as a board member is to be a role model, leadership qualities are a key consideration.
  4. Board diversity: Association Forum is dedicated to diversity in all respects— gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, experience level and even type, size and kind of organization: What do you bring to the board’s composition?
  5. Your commitment to active leadership: In addition to our three annual board meetings, will you attend Holiday Showcase, Honor's Gala, education sessions and other events throughout the year?

Timetable and Key Actions:

  • Call for Board Nominations opens                                    November 19, 2024
  • Completed nominations are due by 11:59 pm CT            December 16, 2024
  • Members selected for interviews will be notified              By January 10, 2025
  • Candidate interviews will be conducted (virtual)              Week of January 20, 2025
